On November 22 of 2023, as part of a student fieldwork, the first-year students of the University of Chant visited Samtskhe-Javakheti together with teacher Nino Naneishvili. The university carries out this activity to ensure the development of fieldwork skills for students and its independent implementation.
This time the student expedition visited the resident of Muskhi village – 90-year-old Maro Zhuzhunadze.
Maro Babo [Grandma] is a singer and Meskhetian master of folk crafts. She is the only one in Georgia with the title of “A Living Treasure” awarded for the protection of Georgian intangible cultural heritage.
Overjoyed by the students’ visit, she did not hesitate to answer their curious questions, told them about Meskhetian traditions and folklore. The students recorded Maro Babo’s narrations along with samples of various songs and also visited the museum of traditional handicrafts that she established.
On behalf of the University of Chant, we would like to thank Maro Babo and her family for their warm hospitality!
